Bemidji High School’s ‘The Addams Family’ Earns Spotlight Awards
In a notable achievement for the arts, Bemidji High School’s November production of “The Addams Family” has received several Outstanding Individual Honors from the Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Education program. This initiative evaluates theatrical productions from across Minnesota, emphasizing artistic excellence, storytelling, and student growth in theatre education.
According to a recent press release, these accolades are among the highest recognitions offered by the Spotlight program, highlighting exceptional performance, vocal work, character development, and technical professionalism. The recognition underscores the dedication of the students involved in the production.
Several students were celebrated for their standout contributions. Sophia Hordichok earned acclaim for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams, while Benjamin Schoneck was recognized for his role as Gomez Addams. Other honorees include Annika Selberg as Alice Beineke, Isabel Neal as Morticia Addams, and Brionna Zierden for her exemplary work in technical leadership as a stagehand.
Cast and Crew Praised for Excellence
Spotlight evaluators attended multiple performances and commended the cast for their musicality, commitment, and emotional clarity. They noted the strength, presence, and maturity displayed by the leading actors and technicians from Bemidji High School.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and talent of our students and faculty,” said the school’s theatre director, reflecting on the honors received. The program’s focus on developing skills in performance and technical aspects of theatre has cultivated a supportive environment for young artists.
All students awarded Spotlight honors will be formally recognized at the annual Spotlight Showcase, which will take place at the State Theatre in Minneapolis this spring. During this event, selected honorees will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, performances, and award presentations that celebrate high school theatre across the state.
These accolades not only highlight the individual talents of the students but also the collaborative efforts that go into producing a successful theatrical performance. The recognition serves as an inspiration for future productions at Bemidji High School and beyond.
