Air Force Captain Sets New Record with 104-Person Skydive

In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, Air Force Captain Charlene Sufficool and 131 skydivers achieved a new world record for the largest parachute formation, successfully forming a 104-person diamond above Lake Wales, Florida in November 2025. This achievement breaks an 18-year-old record that previously stood at 100 participants.

The event attracted skydivers from across the globe, highlighting the international appeal of the sport. While the initial target was to surpass the record by assembling a formation of 107 divers, the team ultimately secured their place in the record books with their impressive 104-person formation on the fourth day of attempts.

Rigorous Training and Preparation

Achieving such a feat required extensive preparation. All participants, including Sufficool, underwent rigorous training over two years at various camps around the world. Many divers, including Sufficool, attended multiple training sessions at their own expense, honing the necessary skills for Canopy Formation, a technique that involves stacking on each other’s parachutes mid-air.

The meticulous planning paid off, as the group not only set a new official record but also surpassed the 100-diver mark four additional times during their attempts. They even managed to create a 106-person canopy formation, although this did not meet the strict criteria established by the World Air Sports Federation for record validation.

The skydivers hailed from 20 countries, showcasing a diverse array of backgrounds. Among them was a 60-year-old plumber from the U.K., proving that age is not a barrier to participating in extreme sports or setting records.
