Urgent Recall of Ice Cream Due to Life-Threatening Allergen Risk

Dozens of pints of vanilla ice cream have been recalled due to the presence of an undeclared allergen, posing a serious health risk for certain consumers. The Ice Cream Factory, based in Mount Vernon, New York, announced the recall of its Vanilla G.Nutt flavour on Tuesday after discovering that it may contain almonds not listed on the product labels.

The recall affects a total of 40 pints, eight quarts, and three half gallons of the ice cream. According to the notice issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts could face serious or even life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.

All recalled items have an expiration date of March 2027 and were distributed in New York state. The affected products are packaged in plastic for the pints and gallons, while the quart containers are made of white paper. The specific UPC codes associated with the recalled items are as follows: pint – 8 56781 00361 3, quart – 8 56781 00362 0, and half gallon – 8 56781 00363 7.

Distribution and Consumer Advice

The recalled vanilla ice cream was distributed to Golden Krust stores in Mount Vernon and White Plains, as well as to Farm County Supermarket in the Queens borough of New York City. An investigation revealed that the issue arose from a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging operations. Fortunately, the Ice Cream Factory has not received any reports of illnesses related to the consumption of the affected ice cream.

This recall follows a similar incident involving Friendly’s Ice Cream, which recently recalled 324 cartons of its Cookies & Cream flavour due to an undeclared allergen, soy. Those products were mistakenly packaged in Vanilla Bean cartons, leading to consumer confusion. Additionally, just weeks prior, the FDA escalated a recall of more than 110,000 cases of Rich Ice Cream Co ice cream bars, warning of potential listeria contamination.
