Yoga teacher and physical therapist Audriana Monteiro has introduced three effective yoga poses designed to enhance core strength and support lower back health. Her instructional video, shared on her YouTube channel Empowered Movement, provides accessible guidance for individuals at any fitness level. These beginner-friendly exercises aim to build strength and resilience against injury.

The first pose highlighted is the Chair Pose, a foundational yoga position that challenges balance and stability. To perform this pose, start by standing with your feet together on a yoga mat. Engage your core as you inhale and raise your arms overhead. As you exhale, bend your knees and lower your hips as if sitting back into a chair. Aim to keep your chest lifted and shoulders back while ensuring your knees remain aligned with your toes. This position can be modified by adjusting the height of your arms based on your comfort level.

Next, Monteiro demonstrates the Chaturanga, a move that resembles a push-up and is integral to many yoga sequences. This pose strengthens the chest, arms, and shoulders while engaging the core for stability. Begin in a plank position, ensuring your shoulders are over your wrists. Bend your elbows and lower your body toward the floor, maintaining a straight line from head to toe. For beginners, performing this pose from the knees is advisable. Lowering slowly increases muscle tension, enhancing the effectiveness of the exercise.

Finally, the Boat Pose is presented as a core-strengthening exercise that targets deeper abdominal muscles. Start seated with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Lean back slightly to create a V-shape with your body, engaging your core. Lift both legs off the ground and bend your knees at a 90-degree angle. Your arms should extend alongside your legs. For those looking to increase the challenge, you can lean further back and extend your legs, or place your hands on the mat for support if needed.

Monteiro emphasizes that these exercises not only contribute to a stronger core but also help protect the lower back, making them valuable additions to any fitness routine. Whether you are a seasoned yogi or just starting, these poses offer a pathway to greater strength and stability.
