Reading Hospital Hosts Free Health Fair to Promote Community Wellness

Reading Hospital is organizing a free health and wellness fair aimed at enhancing community well-being. The event, titled “Fuel Up for Fall Community Recharge,” will take place on August 27, 2023, from 16:00 to 18:30 at the Olivet Boys & Girls Club’s Oakbrook Club, located at 1161 Pershing Blvd. The first 150 attendees will receive a complimentary grab-and-go dinner from the Hispanic Center.
This fair promises an array of engaging activities and valuable resources. Participants will have the chance to win various raffle prizes, which include a Ninja Foodi Possible Cooker Pro, a Family Wellness and First Aid Basket, a Brew & Go Coffee Lovers Basket, and a Self-Care Essentials Basket. Beyond the giveaways, attendees can gather essential health, wellness, and safety information from various hospital departments and community partners.
Health and Safety Activities
Several organizations will provide demonstrations and educational resources. The Reading Fire Department will conduct CPR and AED demonstrations, while Safe Berks will host safety check-ins. Additionally, Reading Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Coach will offer tours and breast cancer education. Other activities will feature a mini stretch zone, healthy snack samples, and dedicated health information stations. Wellness experts will also be present to address any health questions from the community.
“We are excited to have fun and hear directly from community members about their health needs,” stated Tanieka Mason, director of health equity at Tower Health. She emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting, “This work is incredibly important, and I’m glad we will have an opportunity to share resources and also explain how we support health and wellness in our community.”
The health fair aligns with Reading Hospital’s recognition of National Community Health Worker Awareness Week, which runs from August 25 to 29. This observance underscores the hospital’s commitment to fostering a healthier community.
“Our community wellness team is committed to building a healthier community,” said Desha Dickson, vice president of community wellness at Tower Health. “We want to meet people where they are and make access to healthcare as easy as possible.”
For more information regarding the event, individuals can reach out to Reading Hospital’s community health workers via email at [email protected]. The health fair represents an opportunity for community members to engage, learn, and access vital health resources in a welcoming environment.
