Paris Hilton Calls ADHD Her ‘Superpower’ for Business Success
Paris Hilton has described her diagnosis of ADHD as a transformative advantage in her entrepreneurial journey. Speaking on the January 21 episode of the podcast “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” Hilton revealed how her neurodivergent mind has influenced her approach to business. The 44-year-old influencer and entrepreneur stated that her ability to take risks and think creatively has propelled her success in various ventures.
Hilton, who received her ADHD diagnosis as an adult, emphasized the positive aspects of the condition. She stated, “I never wanted to be in one lane. I wanted to create my own lane. And I just have always been someone who just loves to do things and take risks and do things before anyone else.” This perspective reflects a growing recognition that ADHD can offer unique advantages in certain contexts, particularly in creative industries.
The entrepreneur elaborated on how ADHD manifests in her daily life. Individuals with this condition often experience impulsivity, challenges with concentration, and the ability to “hyperfocus” on tasks that capture their interest. Hilton noted that this heightened state of focus allows her to achieve what she calls “the magic” in her work. “I know I would not be the woman I am today or the entrepreneur without it,” she remarked, attributing her drive and creativity to her ADHD.
Before her diagnosis, Hilton faced significant challenges in her academic life, often feeling that something was “wrong” with her. “No matter how hard I would study or try, I would constantly just not be able to remember things in school, be losing my homework, failing tests,” she recalled. This struggle, compounded by experiences of rejection-sensitive dysphoria—a condition linked to ADHD—added to her emotional difficulties during her formative years. “It’s exhausting. And it’s painful, and it’s very difficult to go through,” she said.
Now, Hilton is committed to sharing her journey and advocating for a positive narrative surrounding ADHD. She believes that many successful and creative individuals, including herself, thrive because of their unique cognitive styles. “You can be successful in life, and some of the most creative people I know and brilliant geniuses all have ADHD as well,” she stated.
As Hilton continues to navigate her multifaceted career, she aims to inspire others who may struggle with similar challenges. By reframing ADHD as a “superpower,” she hopes to encourage open discussions about neurodiversity and the potential strengths that can accompany such conditions. Her story serves as a reminder that success can come in various forms and that embracing one’s differences can lead to extraordinary achievements.
