Montgomery County Food Safety Inspections Reveal Serious Violations
Food safety inspections conducted in Montgomery County during the week of October 5-11, 2025, revealed significant violations across multiple food establishments. Among the most concerning findings were instances of expired milk being used and heavy ice accumulation in freezers, highlighting potential risks to public health.
The inspections were carried out by the Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH), which oversees the safety and cleanliness of retail food and drink establishments in the area. Each establishment is subject to an annual inspection, with follow-up visits if initial inspections reveal deficiencies or if complaints are lodged by customers. The MCOPH emphasized that these inspection reports provide only a snapshot of conditions, and many violations are often corrected immediately by the establishments.
One notable case involved Ricos Tacos in Norristown, where inspectors found a lack of required certifications, improper food storage practices, and a buildup of frost in the ice cream freezer. The facility received a warning to address these issues within five business days.
Similarly, Rodeo Pizza and Grill, also located in Norristown, faced issues with improper date marking of food items and unsafe storage of chemical substances. The establishment was advised to rectify the problems and received guidance documents on proper food safety practices.
In Ardmore, Nanu’s Hot Chicken failed to present a Certified Food Sanitation Manager (CFSM) and lacked a written policy for responding to incidents of vomiting and diarrheal events. The facility was reminded of the importance of maintaining these critical health standards, with a follow-up inspection scheduled.
The inspection reports highlight a range of violations across various establishments, including:
– **Expired Food**: Multiple locations were cited for using expired items, including milk at Ben & Irv Deli Restaurant and Tiffin Indian Cuisine.
– **Improper Food Storage**: Facilities like La Poblita Mexican Cuisine & Bar were noted for improper food storage practices, such as raw foods stored above cooked items.
– **Pest Control Issues**: Several establishments, including Red Crab and Boston Style Pizza, reported sightings of pests, necessitating immediate action to address the infestations.
The MCOPH maintains a food safety inspection database, allowing the public to view detailed reports for any establishment in the county. Consumers are encouraged to report any illness or unsafe practices through the MCOPH’s complaint form.
While many violations were corrected on-site during the inspections, the repeated emergence of serious issues raises concerns about overall food safety in the region. Establishments that do not comply with the recommendations from the MCOPH face potential legal actions, including fines and closure.
As Montgomery County continues to enforce its food safety regulations, residents are urged to remain vigilant about the hygiene and safety practices of local eateries. The health department’s commitment to regular inspections reflects an ongoing effort to ensure that food service environments meet the necessary standards for public health and safety.
