A new community connection initiative, called Harbor Connection, officially began on February 7, 2024, with a mindfulness cruise in Coronado, California. Hosted by Safe Harbor Coronado in collaboration with The Monarch Soul, the event invited residents to unwind and foster meaningful relationships while enjoying a tranquil evening on the bay.

The two-hour cruise featured a sound bath meditation, where participants were guided through relaxation techniques amid the soothing sounds of crystal bowls and other instruments. As the boat glided across the water, guests were encouraged to engage in personal reflection and shared experiences, marking a pivotal moment for the community.

Harbor Connection aims to address loneliness and enhance social ties within Coronado. The initiative specifically targets vulnerable groups, including youth, seniors, and those facing significant life transitions. According to Danielle Maske, Executive Director at Safe Harbor, “Loneliness doesn’t always look like isolation. It can exist even when people are busy, socially connected, or deeply involved in the community.”

The focus of the sunset cruise is particularly on fostering connections among women. It provides a unique opportunity for mothers and daughters, grandmothers and granddaughters, and female friends to deepen their relationships in a serene environment. Participants can reflect, recharge, and strengthen their bonds without the distractions of daily life.

“We wanted to create a space where women could connect across generations and friendships in a way that feels gentle and authentic,” stated Stephanie Clegg, founder of The Monarch Soul. “There’s something powerful about sharing a peaceful experience together without expectations and allowing connection to unfold naturally.”

The sound bath meditation is designed to alleviate stress, support the nervous system, and promote grounding, making it suitable for both experienced practitioners and newcomers to mindfulness. Guests can anticipate an evening that is welcoming and restorative, deeply rooted in care and community spirit.

As Coronado embarks on innovative ways to foster community ties, this collaboration between Safe Harbor, the Rotary Club of Coronado, and The Monarch Soul emphasizes that meaningful connection can be simple. Often, it begins with the act of slowing down, listening, and enjoying the sunset together.

Residents interested in participating in this special gathering can find registration details at safeharborcoronado.org/upcoming-events/mindfulness-cruise. All proceeds from the event will support Safe Harbor’s mental wellness initiatives in the community.
