Michael Hoecht of the Buffalo Bills has set a target date for his return from an Achilles injury, aiming to be ready for the beginning of the 2026 NFL season. After a promising debut season was cut short, the 28-year-old defensive lineman is optimistic about his recovery timeline.

Hoecht joined the Bills last season on a three-year contract during free agency but faced a setback due to a six-game suspension. Following the suspension, he made a notable impact in his debut against the Carolina Panthers, recording 1.5 sacks. The subsequent week, he added another 0.5 sack against the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, Hoecht’s season ended prematurely when he tore his right Achilles during that game.

Positive Outlook on Recovery

Recovery from Achilles injuries can vary significantly, but Hoecht recently shared encouraging news about his rehabilitation during an interview on Eric Wood’s Centered on Buffalo podcast. He stated his expectation to be fully recovered by July 1, 2026. “Yeah, that’s very much my expectation, I think it’s everybody else’s expectations,” he said.

Hoecht noted that while recovery timelines can differ, he aims to complete his rehabilitation by early July. He referenced the recovery of fellow NFL player Cam Akers, who returned from a similar injury in five months, though Hoecht anticipates needing more time.

“It used to take maybe a year; I don’t really see it taking that long,” Hoecht added. “But my own personal goal for myself is to be done by July 1 and then hopefully ramp up for camp.” His determination and work ethic are evident as he prepares to return to the field.

Adapting to a New System

As Hoecht prepares for his second season with the Bills, he will be adapting to a new defensive system under coordinator Jim Leonhard. Known for his versatility, Hoecht is expected to fit well into Leonhard’s aggressive scheme, which could lead to a significant season if he fully recovers by July.

The Bills’ coaching staff will be eager to see Hoecht back in action, especially given his strong start last season. His return could bolster the team’s defensive lineup, contributing to their aspirations for success in the upcoming season.

In addition to Hoecht’s recovery, the Bills are actively preparing for the next season. They recently secured their most versatile offensive lineman ahead of free agency and are considering strategic moves to open up $42 million in cap space.

The anticipation surrounding Hoecht’s return adds to the excitement for Bills fans as the team gears up for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
