Major Recall of Cookies and Chocolate Products Due to Allergens
Multiple chocolate and cookie products are being recalled across several states due to the presence of undeclared allergens. The recalls, announced on December 23, 2023, by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affect consumers who may be unaware of potential health risks associated with these products.
Gregory’s Foods, Inc. from Minnesota is recalling its “Bag Full of Cookies” White Chocolate Macadamia Nut frozen cookie dough. The specific product, packaged in 2-pound 8.5-ounce containers, was found to contain undeclared peanuts. This oversight poses a significant risk to individuals with peanut allergies, prompting the company to take immediate action to ensure consumer safety.
In a separate incident, Atwater’s from Maryland is recalling 197 cookie tins due to the presence of undeclared tree nuts. The company has also communicated this recall through a notice published by the FDA. Consumers who have purchased these tins should refrain from consuming them and return them for a refund or disposal.
Additionally, Willy Pete’s Chocolate Company LLC based in Connecticut is recalling its Almond Despair chocolate bars. Similar to the previous recalls, these products contain undeclared allergens, which could endanger those with specific nut allergies. The announcement from Willy Pete’s was also made on December 23, 2023, reflecting a growing concern for allergen labeling among food manufacturers.
The FDA urges consumers to check their pantries for these recalled items and to remain vigilant about allergen warnings. The agency emphasizes that undeclared allergens are a serious public health concern, especially for individuals with allergies who may unknowingly ingest these products.
As the holiday season often involves increased consumption of sweets and treats, these recalls serve as a reminder for both manufacturers and consumers to be attentive to food labeling. Ensuring accurate allergen declarations is crucial for maintaining consumer trust and safeguarding public health.
For further information regarding these recalls, consumers can visit the FDA’s website or contact the respective companies directly. It is advisable for individuals who have purchased these products to dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
