Health and Information Expo in Gate City to Feature Food Drive
The Scott Community Works Health and Information Expo is set to take place on November 15, 2023, at the Gate City United Methodist Church in Gate City, Virginia. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and aims to connect the community with various health and service organizations, providing essential information and resources.
Community Organizations Unite for Public Awareness
This year’s expo will feature representatives from several key organizations, including the Southwest Virginia Red Cross, the Scott County Health Department, and ReVIDA Recovery. Additional participants include the Appalachian Community Development and Action Agency, Hope House of Scott County, Head Start, Clinch River Health Services, the Scott County Ministerial Association Food Pantry, and the Scott County Public Library. The Gate City Fire Department and Marsh Regional Blood Services will also be present, enhancing the event’s breadth of resources.
In a significant addition, the expo will include a food drive, with all donated items benefiting the SCMA Food Pantry and the Blessing Box ministry of Gate City United Methodist Church. Community members are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items to support those in need.
Free Services and Community Engagement
Attendees will have the opportunity to receive free information about the services these organizations provide. Additionally, free blood pressure checks will be available, promoting health awareness among the community. The event is free and open to the public, ensuring that everyone has access to valuable health information.
For those looking to enjoy a meal, box lunches prepared by the Gate City UMC Youth organization will be offered for a donation. This initiative not only provides sustenance but also fosters community involvement through local youth participation.
The Scott Community Works Health and Information Expo will take place at 265 Walnut St. in Gate City. For further details, community members can reach out to SCW coordinator Heather Vaughn at [email protected].
This event highlights the collaborative efforts of local organizations to promote health awareness and community support, making it a significant occasion for residents in the area.
