FDA Warns of Counterfeit Green Lumber Energy Supplements
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a consumer alert regarding counterfeit energy supplements misrepresented as Green Lumber, a product marketed for energy enhancement. The alert, released on August 29, 2023, highlighted that some of these counterfeit products contained Tadalafil, a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction.
Following the FDA’s findings, Green Lumber Holdings, based in California, initiated an internal investigation. The inquiry revealed that a company employee had diverted legitimate packaging and customer information to distribute these counterfeit and potentially harmful products. The company has since terminated the employee involved in this scheme.
The presence of Tadalafil in these supplements poses significant health risks to consumers. The FDA cautioned that individuals taking nitrates or certain medications for heart-related conditions could experience dangerous interactions. Notably, combining Tadalafil with these medications can lead to dangerously low blood pressure, which poses serious health concerns.
Consumers are urged to be vigilant when purchasing Green Lumber products and to report any suspicious items to the appropriate authorities. The FDA continues to monitor the situation and has emphasized the importance of ensuring the integrity of dietary supplements in the marketplace.
The agency’s alert serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by counterfeit products in the health sector. As more consumers seek out dietary supplements for various health benefits, the need for rigorous oversight and consumer awareness becomes increasingly critical.
