Beloved Teacher Carole L. Rish Passes Away at 86, Leaving Legacy
Carole L. Rish, a cherished educator and gymnastics coach, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at the age of 86. She died at the Allied Services Hospice Center after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Rish was known for her vibrant personality and deep commitment to her students, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.
Born on August 23, 1939, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Carole was the daughter of the late Anna (Brindle) Ziegler and Pastor Phillip Ziegler. She pursued her passion for education at East Stroudsburg University, where she earned a degree in teaching. Her athletic prowess shone through as she represented the university’s gymnastics team, excelling in both gymnastics and dance. This passion propelled her to become a physical education teacher, focusing on instilling a love for movement in her students.
Throughout her career, Rish worked primarily in the Greater Nanticoke Area School District. She was highly regarded for her innovative teaching methods, particularly in introducing her students to line dancing and square dancing set to a variety of music genres, with Neil Diamond being a personal favorite. Her dedication to her craft was evident, and she was beloved by both students and colleagues alike. One of her nurses, who had once been a student in her class, expressed gratitude for the positive influence she had during her teaching years.
Carole’s legacy extends beyond her professional achievements. She is preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Marlene Ziegler, her son David W. Moyer, and several other family members. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Moyer and Kimberly (Moyer) Czapracki, as well as her brothers Jack Ziegler and David Ziegler. Additionally, Carole leaves behind many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.
Prior to her diagnosis with Parkinson’s Disease, Carole was known for her adventurous spirit and active lifestyle. Her summers spent working in Ocean City, New Jersey, provided her with cherished experiences that shaped her joyful outlook on life. Friends and family recall her sense of humor and unconditional love, making her a beloved figure in her community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Nanticoke Christian Fellowship. A visitation will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Dinelli Family Funeral Home, located at 170 East Broad Street, Nanticoke. A memorial service will follow, officiated by Pastor David Pegarella of Nanticoke Christian Fellowship. The family will also hold a gathering to celebrate her life at a later date, details of which will be announced.
