Young Artists Shine at Jefferson City Exhibition
Students from Hudson Elementary School in the Webster Groves School District showcased their artistic talents in an exhibition held at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education building. The event featured artwork created by students from kindergarten through fifth grade and was on display from December 2023 through January 2024.
The exhibition highlighted the creativity of young artists, particularly those in Lily Ellis’s second-grade class. Students painted shapes that held personal significance, using burlap as their canvas. This project not only encouraged self-expression but also introduced students to textile art techniques, including adding a running stitch to their work.
In addition to the individual projects, students in grades three through five collaborated on a large-scale piece known as a “quiltscape.” This collective effort allowed the older students to engage with each other and develop teamwork skills while expressing their artistic visions.
The opportunity to display their creations in a prominent public space like Jefferson City provided these young artists with valuable exposure and recognition. The exhibition aimed to foster an appreciation for the arts within the community while encouraging students to explore their creative potential.
Parents and teachers expressed pride in the students’ work, noting the importance of supporting arts education at a young age. The initiative reflects a broader commitment within the Webster Groves School District to enhance student engagement through creative endeavors.
Overall, the exhibition serves as a testament to the artistic abilities of young learners and the importance of nurturing creativity in educational settings.
