YMCA of Greater Nashua Launches $2.5M Renovation for Early Education Center
The YMCA of Greater Nashua has announced a significant renovation project for its Merrimack YMCA Early Education Center (EEC). This facility is recognized as the largest childcare center in New Hampshire and the largest single-site YMCA early education center in the United States. The renovation aims to enhance the learning environment for children and families in the Greater Nashua community.
According to Joe Manzoli, Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of Greater Nashua, “This renovation is a pivotal investment in our mission and in the futures of children and families across the Greater Nashua community.” The initiative will involve updating all classrooms and creating new learning spaces designed to inspire curiosity and support children’s growth and wellness.
Key Features of the Renovation
The renovation project, managed by Chapman Construction, will cover approximately 24,000 square feet. This includes upgrades to 16 existing classrooms, improvements to kitchen and storage areas, and the addition of three new classrooms equipped with private bathrooms. Notably, the center will remain operational throughout the renovation, allowing the YMCA to continue serving local families.
Among the enhancements planned are skylights and daylighting improvements aimed at creating a brighter and healthier environment for both children and staff. Classrooms will incorporate sensory-friendly and nature-inspired designs, promoting active learning and overall wellness.
The redesign will also modernize hallways and classrooms to foster a sense of belonging. New staff lounges will be created, and security features will be upgraded by relocating secured entrances, ensuring all classrooms are within a single restricted-access area.
Commitment to Quality and Community Support
Despite the extensive renovations, early education services will continue uninterrupted. Temporary classrooms will be established, and clear communication will be maintained to minimize disruptions for families utilizing the center.
The total projected cost for the renovation is approximately $2.5 million, funded through a combination of YMCA investment, community donations, and state tax credits. In a significant boost to the fundraising efforts, an anonymous donor has pledged a matching gift of $100,000, effectively doubling every community contribution towards the project.
Mike LaChance, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Greater Nashua, expressed gratitude for the generous donation, stating, “This matching gift is a strong vote of confidence in our commitment to early education and the families we serve.” He emphasized that this initiative encourages community involvement and aims to create an inspiring and secure learning environment for every child.
The matching gift opportunity is critical, as fully meeting this challenge will bring the YMCA closer to securing the necessary funding for this essential renovation. Ensuring that every child, both current and future, can learn in a safe and well-equipped space remains the organization’s top priority.
