West Fargo Schools Welcome 13,471 Students for New Academic Year

West Fargo Public Schools has reported an increase in enrollment as the new academic year commences. On August 21, 2025, students, teachers, and staff returned to school, marking the beginning of the 2025-26 academic year. The district’s first-day enrollment figures show a total of 13,471 students enrolled in prekindergarten through grade 12, which is an increase of 64 students compared to projections made earlier this year.
In the weeks leading up to the start of classes, a demographer had estimated that 13,407 students would enroll in the district this year. The enrollment report indicates that 12,298 students in grades one through twelve began classes, which includes those participating in the district’s virtual program.
As for kindergarten, 993 students are registered to start on August 26, 2025. This number may change as families finalize their choices. Additionally, the district anticipates that 180 students will join early childhood special education preschool on September 2, 2025.
The total enrollment of 13,471 students represents an increase of 209 students from last year’s first-day enrollment, which was recorded at 13,262 students. This consistent growth secures West Fargo Public Schools’ position as the second-largest school district in the state of North Dakota.
Bismarck Public Schools, which also commenced its academic year on the same day, reported an enrollment of 13,782 students in kindergarten through grade 12. This figure is approximately ten students fewer than the previous year.
The growth in enrollment reflects the ongoing demand for educational services in the West Fargo area. As the school district adapts to this increasing student population, it is essential to ensure that resources are adequately allocated to maintain educational standards and support all students effectively.
