Vista School Lockdown After Student Reports Armed Men Nearby

A report of two armed men prompted a lockdown at Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary School in Vista, California, on March 15, 2024. The situation unfolded around 7:30 a.m. when a student informed a staff member about seeing two suspicious individuals while walking to the school, located in the 600 block of Poinsettia Avenue.

In response to the report, school administrators acted swiftly by notifying the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. They secured students and staff in classrooms and offices “out of an abundance of caution,” according to authorities. The lockdown lasted approximately 90 minutes as law enforcement responded to the potential threat.
