Schuylkill Haven’s Mina Barket Shines as All-American Cheerleader in Hawaii
Mina Barket, a sophomore at Schuylkill Haven High School, recently showcased her cheerleading talent in a remarkable setting: the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii. This opportunity arose from her selection as an **All-American Cheerleader** by the **Universal Cheerleading Association** (UCA), a prestigious recognition that honored her technical skills and leadership qualities.
Barket was one of nine cheerleaders from Schuylkill Haven to achieve this status, with several of her teammates, including Ari Wright, Aceilyn Hook, Jaiden Kocher, and others, also recognized as All-Americans. However, she stood out as the only one who participated in the December 7, 2023, parade.
Recognition and Achievement
The **UCA Cheer Camp** in July served as a platform for these athletes to demonstrate their skills, with nominations made by peers and camp staff. According to Brian Bianco, spokesman for **Varsity Spirit**, “Being named an All-American athlete is a prestigious nomination that recognizes superior technical skills and exceptional team leadership qualities.”
Barket’s participation in the parade brought her together with hundreds of cheerleaders from across the United States. It was an occasion to celebrate spirit and camaraderie, broadcasted globally to honor the significance of Pearl Harbor. Reflecting on the experience, Barket noted that it was her second parade appearance, following her participation in the **Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade** the previous year.
She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with fellow cheerleaders, stating, “The experience will help me become an even better cheerleader.” Her pride in her team was evident, particularly given the number of her teammates who also earned All-American recognition.
A Memorable Journey
Accompanying Barket on this journey was her mother, **Amy Keller**. Together, they explored Hawaii’s stunning landscapes, including its beautiful beaches and the **Polynesian Cultural Center**. A poignant moment came when they visited the **USS Arizona Memorial**, participating in a ceremony honoring World War II veterans.
Barket’s father, **Chris Barket**, followed the parade from home, despite the five-hour time difference. He expressed pride in his daughter’s achievements, stating, “I’m absolutely proud of her. She’s an overall great kid.”
Barket’s coach, **Caitlin Brossman**, shares this sentiment, emphasizing her role within the team. “We love having her on the team. She’s a great student and a great athlete, and all of the younger cheerleaders look up to her. She’s just a ray of light,” Brossman said.
Mina Barket’s journey from the sidelines of Schuylkill Haven High School to the vibrant streets of Honolulu represents not only personal achievement but also the dedication and spirit of her cheerleading squad. As she continues to grow in her craft, the experiences gained from these parades will surely influence her development as a leader and athlete in the years to come.
