Rowan-Salisbury Board Appoints Dr. Alisha Byrd-Clark to Vacancy

The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education has appointed Dr. Alisha Byrd-Clark to fill a vacancy left by former board member Sabrina Harris. This decision was made during a special meeting on October 23, 2023, where board members interviewed various candidates for the unexpired term. Byrd-Clark was selected over other applicants, including Alissa Redmond, Caren Lightfoot, and Larry Yon.

Dr. Byrd-Clark brings experience and a strong commitment to education back to the board. She previously served on the board but chose not to run for re-election in 2024. Instead, she campaigned for a seat in the North Carolina House of Representatives, where she was defeated by incumbent Harry Warren in the race for the 76th district.

Expressing her enthusiasm for returning to the board, Byrd-Clark stated, “This is where my heart is. I have run for Rowan County Board of Commissioners and the North Carolina House of Representatives. My purpose of running for both of those was to expand my advocacy for education.” Her dedication to educational advocacy has been a consistent theme throughout her career.

The board will officially welcome Byrd-Clark during its next meeting, scheduled for October 27, 2023. Her return is anticipated to bring continuity and insight to the board’s ongoing projects and initiatives.
