Remembering Rosalie Ondrush: A Life of Service and Family
Rosalie Ondrush, a dedicated registered nurse and beloved family member, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of care and compassion. She was born on November 9, 1933, in Lansford, Pennsylvania, to John and Mary Koller. After pursuing her nursing education at the Fordham Hospital School of Nursing, she graduated as a registered nurse in September 1954.
In 1956, Rosalie married John Ondrush, who predeceased her in 1993. The couple initially lived in the Bronx before relocating to Farmington, Connecticut, where they raised their four children. Rosalie is survived by her daughter, Laura Ondrush, and three sons, Ken Ondrush and his wife Amelia, Keith Ondrush and his wife Lisa, and Kyle Ondrush and his wife Kirstin. She also leaves behind two grandsons, Pedro Ondrush and his wife Lauren, and Filipe Ondrush, as well as a great-grandson, John Alfred Ondrush.
Throughout her career, Rosalie worked tirelessly as an R.N., dedicating much of her professional life to the practice of medicine. Her most recent position was with Dr. Denes Balazs in West Hartford, where she continued until her retirement in her early seventies.
A Passion for Family and Travel
After retiring, Rosalie embraced new adventures, traveling with her sisters, Louise and Janice. She cherished annual trips to Cape May, New Jersey, starting in 1986, where she created lasting memories with family members, including her sister Louise’s daughter Phyllis and her family. These trips were particularly special to her and highlighted the importance of family in her life.
An avid reader, Rosalie found joy in historical nonfiction, contemporary novels, and especially murder mysteries. Each morning, she enjoyed reading two newspapers at her kitchen table, often accompanied by her little dog. Her creative pursuits included prolific knitting and crafting handmade cards, which she shared with loved ones.
The family expresses deep gratitude to the staff at Autumn Lake in New Britain, where Rosalie spent her final years. They extend special thanks to the dedicated professionals in the memory care unit who provided exceptional care to their beloved Rosalie, affectionately known as Lina.
At the family’s request, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, they encourage donations to Connecticut Public / PBS or NPR in her memory. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc., further details can be found at www.ahernfuneralhome.com.
Rosalie Ondrush will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her profession, and her passion for life.
