Nathan Wolfe Ends Stanford Appointment Following Epstein Revelations
Nathan Wolfe, a prominent virologist and former professor at Stanford University, will conclude his visiting appointment in the bioengineering department effective Monday. This decision follows a recent report detailing his connection with the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
According to a spokesperson from Stanford, Wolfe’s appointment, which lasted one year, will not be renewed. The investigation by The Daily revealed troubling correspondence between Wolfe and Epstein, including invitations for Epstein to meet “a couple of hottie interns.” Additionally, Wolfe reportedly sought to engage Epstein as a donor for his research on sexual behavior, which aimed to develop a “female viagra” based on what he described as their “horny virus hypothesis.”
In response to the report, Wolfe issued a statement through The Daily, asserting that he never witnessed or participated in any misconduct or inappropriate behavior. He expressed regret for his association with Epstein, emphasizing his belief in the integrity of his work.
Wolfe has held various academic positions, including serving as the Lorey I. Lokey Visiting Professor of Human Biology. His LinkedIn profile identifies him as a “Visiting Scholar” at Stanford from 2023 until February 2026, although this description was updated following the allegations. Previously, it had characterized him as a Visiting Scholar at the Quake Lab, where he co-authored several research papers.
The nature of Wolfe’s ties to Epstein has raised significant concerns within the academic community. Stanford University has not publicly commented on the broader implications of this relationship, nor has Wolfe responded to inquiries regarding his future affiliation with the university.
This situation reflects ongoing scrutiny regarding the connections between academia and individuals with controversial backgrounds, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in research funding and professional relationships. The investigation continues to unfold, as stakeholders seek to understand the full impact of these revelations on Wolfe’s career and the academic environment at Stanford.
