King University Secures $75,000 Grant for Vocational Support

King University in Bristol, Tennessee, has received a significant boost in its efforts to support students’ vocational exploration with a new grant totaling $75,000. This funding comes from the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE), an organization comprising over 300 colleges and universities dedicated to enhancing vocation-focused education. The announcement was made through a formal statement from the university.
The grant, named the Vocation Across the Academy, aims to help students identify and pursue their vocational callings. According to Glenn Sanders, the director of Christian Formation and Leadership at King University, this initiative will deepen the university’s commitment to fostering a sense of purpose among its students. He expressed gratitude towards NetVUE for their ongoing collaboration, stating, “NetVUE has long supported King in its efforts to promote the importance of calling in students’ lives.”
Funding Structure and Future Goals
The initial funding will be utilized in various phases, focusing first on career planning and the establishment of vocational mentorship programs involving alumni and community professionals. In a notable incentive, if the initial grant amount is matched by donors on a 1:1 basis during the 2025-26 academic year, NetVUE will contribute an additional $75,000. This could potentially increase the total grant amount to $225,000 over a three-year period.
A dedicated team of faculty and staff at King University will administer the grant, including Sanders, Martin Dotterweich, a professor of History and director of King’s Institute for Faith & Culture, as well as Han Ong, an associate professor of Biology, and Amanda Pollard, the director of Career Services. This collaborative effort aims to enhance vocational resources and opportunities for students, ensuring that they receive the guidance needed to explore their career options effectively.
Individuals interested in mentoring students or participating in this initiative are encouraged to contact Amanda Pollard at [email protected].
The support from NetVUE is a testament to the organization’s commitment to enriching the educational landscape, and King University is poised to make a significant impact on its students’ vocational journeys with this grant.
