Kenosha Unified School District Welcomes Students Back for 2025-26 Year
The Kenosha Unified School District kicked off the 2025-26 academic year on September 5, 2025, welcoming students from kindergarten through 12th grade back to class. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as children reunited with friends and teachers, marking a fresh start for many.
At **Bose Elementary School**, fourth-grade students like Mylo DeLeon and Evy Perez Marin busily organized their supplies, eager to dive into new learning experiences. Mylo, smiling as he put away his belongings, exemplified the joyous spirit that permeated the school. Alongside him, Evy reached for a folder, preparing for an engaging day ahead.
In another classroom, teacher Connie Bush received enthusiastic high-fives from her students. The eagerness of the children was palpable as they settled into their new routines. Activities included coloring bookmarks and helping one another, showcasing the camaraderie that defines the school community.
Meanwhile, at **Prairie Lane Elementary School**, first-grade teacher Emma Oster read “You’re Finally Here” by Melanie Watt to her new class, setting a welcoming tone for the year. Students like Henrick Hietzman hung their backpacks on hooks while others eagerly participated in classroom activities.
The first day of school is always a memorable occasion, not just for students but for families as well. Grandparents and parents walked alongside their children, capturing moments that would last a lifetime. For instance, April Smith accompanied her grandson, Giovanni DeMarino, adding a sense of warmth to the day’s festivities.
As the school day unfolded, students engaged in various activities, from organizing their materials to participating in spelling exercises with their teachers. Nicolette Brown, a first-grade teacher at Prairie Lane, assisted her students in completing their worksheets, fostering a nurturing environment conducive to learning.
With the beginning of the school year, Kenosha Unified School District aims to create a supportive atmosphere that encourages academic and personal growth. The district invites parents and community members to be an active part of this journey. Opportunities to engage include joining various district committees, where input from families and community members is invaluable.
As classes resume, the district looks forward to a year filled with achievements, challenges, and memorable experiences for all students. The commitment to education and community remains strong, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in a positive learning environment.
