Kansas Arts Commission Opens Grant Applications for 2026-2027
The Kansas Arts Commission (KAC) has launched the application process for three grant programs aimed at enhancing arts and cultural initiatives across Kansas. Announced by Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland, these grants are designed to promote community pride, stimulate economic growth, and preserve cultural heritage within the state.
Grant Programs Target Diverse Arts Initiatives
The available grant programs include: the General Operating Support Grant, which provides funding for the daily operations of established arts organizations; the Arts Everywhere Grant, which supports specific projects and initiatives and is open to both arts and non-arts organizations; and the Public Art & Murals Grant, which funds permanent and semi-permanent public art installations.
“Communities across Kansas are experiencing the positive impacts that the arts provide — strengthening culture, vibrancy, and economic vitality statewide,” Toland stated. He emphasized KAC’s commitment to supporting organizations that enrich communities and connect residents with meaningful cultural experiences.
This fiscal year, KAC has awarded over $1.25 million in grants to more than 130 organizations across 38 counties. The funding has supported a wide range of activities, including museums, arts education, music, dance, visual arts, theatre, murals, and poetry. These awards are made possible through state appropriations, federal support from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and revenues from the Kansas “State of the Arts” license plate program.
Application Details and Requirements
“The arts are prevalent across Kansas — in every county and every town, brilliant artists, dedicated organizations, leaders, educators, and volunteers are actively bringing vibrancy and creativity to our state,” said Curtis Young, KAC Director. He expressed excitement about the upcoming applications and their potential impact on the community.
Eligible applicants include Kansas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, local government units such as schools, universities, libraries, art agencies, and federally recognized tribal communities. All applicants must have completed at least one fiscal year of arts programming prior to applying.
The deadline for applications is set for 11:59 p.m. on March 23, 2026. The grant period will run from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, and all grants will require a matching contribution. For more information on guidelines and eligibility, applicants can access the KAC website.
Applications must be submitted through the Kansas Commerce online application portal. Interested parties are encouraged to apply promptly to take advantage of this funding opportunity.
