High School Students Compete for $250,000 in Presidential 1776 Award
The Presidential 1776 Award has launched a nationwide competition offering high school students the chance to win a total of $250,000 through their knowledge of United States history. The competition invites students in grades 9-12 to participate in a multi-stage contest that culminates in a national finals event in Washington, DC in June 2024.
Those interested can enroll until February 21, 2024. The competition consists of an online test followed by in-person regional semi-finals. The top scorers will advance to the finals, where they will compete for scholarships valued at $150,000 for first place, $75,000 for second, and $25,000 for third.
The award aims to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States and promote interest in civics and history among students. According to McMahon, who spoke with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow, this initiative is part of a broader effort by the administration to engage young people in understanding their country’s heritage.
Students will face what is described as “the impossible test,” which includes a broad set of civics questions. They will have 90 minutes to tackle up to 4,000 questions, testing not only their knowledge but also their ability to perform under pressure.
McMahon emphasized the nonpartisan nature of the competition, stating, “It’s really about the history of the country.” This approach is intended to foster a deeper understanding of American history without political bias.
The excitement around the Presidential 1776 Award reflects a larger cultural moment as the country prepares for its anniversary celebrations. The competition seeks to inspire a new generation of informed citizens, enhancing their knowledge of the past while providing significant financial incentives for academic achievement.
As registration is now open, students across the nation are encouraged to take part in this unique opportunity to showcase their understanding of U.S. history and potentially secure funding for their future education. With significant prizes at stake, the Presidential 1776 Award is poised to capture the interest of many young scholars eager to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for American history.
