Hazleton Area Libraries Offer Exciting Events This November
The Hazleton Area libraries are set to engage the community with a variety of events throughout November. From board game nights to educational presentations, residents can immerse themselves in activities that promote learning and social interaction.
Highlights of Community Events
The **Hazleton Area Public Library** will host an **Adult Board Game Night** on **November 11, 2025**, from **18:00 to 19:30**. Participants can enjoy classic games such as Scrabble, Scattergories, UNO, chess, and Pictionary. The event is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own games. To participate, registration is required by calling the Reference Desk at **570-454-2961**.
Another notable event at the library on the same day is the **Homeschool Hour** featuring a presentation by Nicole, the curator from **Eckley Miners Village**. She will discuss the life of coal miners and their families, showcasing hands-on artifacts and demonstrating butter-making techniques. This session is suitable for homeschooled children of all ages, and registration is available through the youth services department starting **November 3**.
On **November 15**, adults can participate in a **Walking Meditation** session led by licensed guide **Sheila Dignazio** from **13:00 to 14:00** at the Greater Hazleton Rails to Trails. This free event invites participants to dress comfortably and enjoy a calming experience in nature. Registration is required through the reference desk.
Upcoming Workshops and Celebrations
Other exciting offerings include a **Children’s Chess Night** on **November 17** from **18:00 to 19:00**, welcoming families with children of all ages and skill levels. The library provides chess boards and beginner-friendly instructional guides, and registration is necessary through the youth services department.
For those interested in crafting, an **Adult Craft Class** will take place on **November 20** at **17:30**, focusing on creating macrame cord fringe holiday trees. All materials will be supplied at no cost, but space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
Teens can look forward to the **Gingerbread House Building Competition** on **November 24** from **17:30 to 19:00**. This event is designed for students in grades 6 to 12, with all materials provided. Finished houses will be voted on by patrons, and the winner will receive a special prize. Registration is required due to limited space.
Additionally, the library will celebrate **Jane Austen’s 250th Birthday** on **December 6** from **13:00 to 15:00**. Attendees can enjoy tea and light fare while listening to guest speaker **Dr. Helen Davis**, an expert in 19th-century British literature, discuss Austen’s life. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is limited.
The **Marian Sutherland Kirby Library** will also host a presentation on **chronic wasting disease**, a growing concern for deer and elk populations in Pennsylvania, on **November 19** at **18:00**. Wildlife biologist **Robyn Crouthamel** will explain the disease and the legalities surrounding deer feeding in affected areas. To attend, registration is required through the library.
Other ongoing programs include **Socrates Café**, which meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, and **Seniors Connect**, offering technology assistance classes.
In **Ringtown**, the **Preschool Playtime** is scheduled from **10:30 to 11:30** on Tuesdays, providing a space for young children to socialize and play. Additionally, the **Harmony Book Club** meets every other Tuesday at **19:00**.
The **White Haven Area Community Library** will sponsor its annual **Holiday Quilts and Crafts Show** on **December 6** from **10:00 to 15:00**. This event will feature quilts from the **Cranberry Quilt Guild**, various craft vendors, and homemade food options. Tickets are **$5**, available in advance at the library.
