Groveton Cosmetology Students Explore Farouk USA Headquarters
Students from Groveton High School’s cosmetology program recently embarked on an educational trip to the Farouk USA Headquarters in Houston. Departing at 7 a.m., the students engaged in an immersive experience designed to expand their understanding of the beauty industry and its innovative practices.
The field trip was orchestrated by instructor Victoria Robertson, who expressed pride in the students’ commitment to gaining knowledge. “I’m extremely proud of these students who decided to come because they gained so much knowledge about the ‘Farouk Chi history,’” Robertson stated. This history refers to Farouk Systems, Inc., a Houston-based beauty company founded in 1986 by Palestinian entrepreneur and hairdresser Farouk Shami.
During the visit, students learned about Shami’s groundbreaking contributions to the beauty industry. After suffering from an allergy to traditional chemical hair color, he developed the world’s first ammonia-free hair color. Subsequently, he collaborated with NASA scientists to create the innovative CHI ceramic flat iron. These advancements have positioned Farouk USA as a leader in promoting safer salon practices and high-quality products.
The company’s guiding principles are encapsulated in the motto: “Environment, Education, and Ethics.” This philosophy underscores their commitment to producing safer salon products, including the widely recognized BioSilk Silk Therapy, which utilizes silk proteins to enhance hair health.
As the seniors approach graduation from Groveton High School, they are preparing to enter the workforce with a cosmetology license. The insights gained during their visit may open doors for employment opportunities at Farouk USA. With the skills and knowledge acquired, these students are well-positioned to make informed choices about their future careers in the cosmetology field.
The trip not only provided a valuable learning experience but also highlighted the importance of innovation and ethical practices within the beauty industry. As the students return to their studies, they carry with them a deeper appreciation for the impact of their chosen profession.
