DeTar Hospital North Launches Free Prenatal Classes for Parents
Expecting parents in Victoria, Texas, can begin the new year with confidence by participating in the free Prenatal Childbirth Education Classes offered by DeTar Hospital North. The three-part series is scheduled for January 6, 13, and 20, 2026, starting at 18:00 at the hospital’s Garden Café, located at 101 Medical Drive.
These classes aim to provide comprehensive education and support for expectant parents, covering essential topics related to late pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the early postpartum period. The sessions are designed for both first-time parents and those expanding their families. Experienced healthcare professionals will lead the classes, fostering an engaging environment where participants can ask questions and connect with others in similar situations.
“Our prenatal classes are designed to empower parents with knowledge while easing anxieties that often come with pregnancy and childbirth,” said Mary Claire Bradshaw, Director of the DeTar Women and Children’s Center. She emphasized the importance of hands-on education and real-life insights, stating that the program helps families feel more confident and prepared as they approach one of life’s most meaningful moments.
Comprehensive Curriculum and Support
The childbirth education program at DeTar North adopts an interactive approach, covering a wide range of topics. Participants will learn about understanding the third trimester, all stages of labor and delivery, comfort techniques—including breathing and relaxation methods—medications, epidurals, medical procedures, cesarean sections, and birth planning. The curriculum also addresses postpartum care and newborn care, ensuring that parents feel equipped for the journey ahead.
A highlight of the classes is a tour of the labor and delivery department, allowing participants to familiarize themselves with the environment. They will spend time in a labor room learning about the equipment and labor positioning, which can significantly alleviate fears associated with the birthing process.
While the classes are free of charge, pre-registration is recommended. Expectant parents interested in reserving a spot for the January series are encouraged to call (361) 788-2608.
DeTar Hospital North’s commitment to educating and supporting families underscores its role in fostering a positive and informed childbirth experience. By offering these classes, the hospital not only prepares parents for the arrival of their child but also strengthens the community’s foundation for family health and well-being.
