Central Kansas Christian Academy Expands to K-12 Education

Central Kansas Christian Academy (CKCA) is set to transition from a K-8 institution to a K-12 school, beginning with the introduction of a ninth grade in the 2027-2028 academic year. This expansion was discussed during the Great Bend Chamber Coffee event on Thursday, where school board member Eric Rostine outlined the plans to gradually add one high school grade each year until the full range of grades is available.

To facilitate this significant change, CKCA has formed a committee that is collaborating with a mentor experienced in managing high schools. Rostine emphasized the importance of careful planning to ensure a successful transition. CKCA is a fully accredited, non-denominational school that integrates Biblical teachings throughout its educational framework.

“What we mean by Biblically integrated is that we don’t just sprinkle some Bible verses here and there, but we actually integrate that fully into the education system here,” Rostine stated. “It’s woven into our fabric, from our mission statement to the lessons that they learn. We help students grow both academically and spiritually, because we want to give them a strong foundation for the future.”

Currently, CKCA has 74 students enrolled and employs around 10 to 11 teachers. Rostine highlighted that CKCA offers a nurturing, Christ-centered environment, appealing particularly to families concerned about smaller class sizes, bullying, or a loss of community in other educational settings.

Students at CKCA expressed their joy about the school, sharing sentiments such as, “We get to learn about God and have amazing teachers,” and, “This school is awesome. We get to pray and we get to learn about the Bible.” The theme for this academic year is “Putting on the full armor of God,” with younger students memorizing relevant Bible verses, including Ephesians 6:14-17.

The Parent-Teacher Fellowship (PTF) President Tiffany Schoendaler also addressed the audience about an upcoming school fundraiser featuring Double Good popcorn. Acknowledging the nostalgia for the traditional butterball sale, which received an enthusiastic response, she assured attendees that the new fundraiser, running from February 12-27, 2024, will offer a variety of popcorn flavors available for online ordering.

As CKCA prepares for its expansion, the school community looks forward to the opportunities this transition will bring, further enhancing its commitment to providing a holistic education that integrates faith and learning.
