LaVinia Foster Watson Reilly, a beloved figure known for her vibrant spirit and creative contributions, passed away on April 5, 2025, at the age of 98 in Pasadena, California. Born on October 3, 1926, in Hampton, Virginia, she leaves behind a legacy of artistic achievement and community involvement.

Early Life and Education

LaVinia pursued her passion for science by earning a degree in Biology from the University of Richmond. Her educational background laid the foundation for a life rich in exploration and curiosity. LaVinia was not only an academic but also a pioneer in the arts, having played a significant role in the development of Disneyland’s Tour Guide program during its construction.

A Passion for the Arts

Settling in Southern California with her family, LaVinia became deeply involved in various cultural organizations. She was a dedicated member of the OC Master Chorale, where her love of music flourished, and actively engaged with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) of California and the OC Society for Calligraphy. As a graphic artist, LaVinia had a profound appreciation for pen and paper, often expressing her creativity through intricate designs and illustrations.

Beyond her artistic endeavors, she was known for her warm conversations and insatiable curiosity about the world around her. LaVinia’s ability to connect with people and share stories made her a cherished friend and mentor to many.

LaVinia is survived by her three children, John, Vin, and Margaret, along with their spouses and her grandson, Jack. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kennicott Reilly, and her son, Robin Reilly.

A memorial service will take place at 10:00 AM on August 2, 2025, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Family and friends are encouraged to honor LaVinia’s memory through flowers, trees, or meals as a tribute to the life she lived. Her impact on her community and family will be felt for generations to come.
