Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Students Explore Careers at BOCES
Nearly sixty sophomores from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School recently participated in a hands-on tour at the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE) Center in Albany. The visit aimed to introduce students to a wide range of career opportunities available through the programs offered at the center.
During their time at the CTE Albany Campus, students engaged with faculty and current CTE students, gaining insights into various vocational pathways. They also had the chance to try out some of the skills taught in different programs, which provided a practical perspective on the education they might pursue.
As enrollment for the 2026-27 school year is currently underway, the event served as an important opportunity for students to explore their options. The CTE Center offers a diverse array of programs designed to equip students with the skills needed for success in various industries, including healthcare, technology, and skilled trades.
The hands-on approach of the CTE Center emphasizes experiential learning, allowing students to gain practical skills while still in high school. This model not only prepares them for immediate employment but also lays a foundation for further education in their chosen fields.
For many students, the visit was an eye-opening experience. They were able to see first-hand how the CTE programs could shape their future career paths. Engaging directly with instructors and current students provided valuable insights into the daily realities of various professions.
As interest in vocational education continues to grow, events like this highlight the importance of early exposure to career options. By connecting students with resources and opportunities in their local community, the Capital Region BOCES aims to inspire the next generation of skilled workers.
Overall, the tour underscored the vital role that career and technical education plays in preparing students for successful futures, encouraging them to consider how their interests and skills align with potential career paths.
