Mamani Receives Michelin Star Just Weeks After Opening in Dallas

A new dining establishment in Dallas has quickly earned a prestigious accolade, being awarded a Michelin star less than two months after its grand opening. Mamani, located in Uptown Dallas, received this honor during a ceremony in Houston on October 28, 2023. This recognition places Mamani among the elite of the Dallas-Fort Worth culinary scene, highlighting its exceptional offerings and innovative approach.

Chef Christophe De Lellis leads the kitchen at Mamani, bringing a wealth of experience to the table. He previously headed the kitchen at the renowned Joël Robuchon in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. According to Michelin, Mamani is described as a “glitzy, well-appointed hotspot,” showcasing De Lellis’ impressive culinary pedigree.

The restaurant features a bistronomie-style menu, which emphasizes elevated yet simple dishes offered à la carte. Diners can expect to savor high-quality ingredients and expert techniques throughout the menu. Notable dishes include the Dover sole with brown butter and the veal “Cordon Bleu.” Michelin encourages guests to save room for the Paris-Brest with praline cream, a highlight of the dining experience. Prices at Mamani range from $25 for Gnocchi Puttanesca to $169 for a whole duck meant to be shared.

Mamani’s concept has been in development for three years, as noted by Brandon Cohanim, one of the restaurant’s owners. The establishment is named after his grandmother, affectionately known as “Mamani.” In an Instagram post, he shared, “From when we were kids, Mamani shared her love for food, restaurants, and hospitality, sparking the passion that drives us now.”

Other Michelin Star Establishments in Dallas

Mamani joins the ranks of Tatsu Dallas, the only other restaurant in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to receive a Michelin star last year. Tatsu, an edomae sushi restaurant located in Deep Ellum, is led by Chef Tatsuya Sekiguchi, who has a background in prestigious culinary settings, including the Michelin-starred Sushi Yasuda in Manhattan. Dining at Tatsu is an intimate affair, offering 15 to 18 courses at around $185 per person. The restaurant’s limited seating makes securing a reservation a challenge, but the experience is noted as worthwhile.

In addition to the star recipients, several establishments in the area maintained their Bib Gourmand designation, which recognizes restaurants for their quality and value. Notable mentions include Cattleack, Gemma, Goldee’s Bar-B-Q, and Lucia, all situated in Dallas. Furthermore, Chas Martin of Mister Charles in Dallas was acknowledged for his exceptional cocktail offerings.

This year, Sushi Kozy in downtown Dallas received a recommended distinction for the first time. The guide describes this omakase-only spot from Chef Paul Ko as “more elegant than cozy,” blending contemporary kaiseki and sushi in a stylish environment.

The full list of Michelin-recognized establishments includes a variety of dining options across the region, showcasing the diverse culinary landscape of Dallas and its surrounding areas.
