Multiple chocolate and cookie products have been recalled across various states due to undeclared allergens, raising concerns among consumers during the holiday season. The recalls were announced on December 23, 2023, by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), highlighting the potential health risks posed by these products.

Gregory’s Foods, Inc., based in Minnesota, is recalling its “Bag Full of Cookies” White Chocolate Macadamia Nut frozen cookie dough, sold in 2-pound 8.5-ounce packages. The company confirmed that some units contained undeclared peanuts, which poses a severe risk to individuals with peanut allergies. This information was detailed in an announcement released by the FDA.

In a similar move, Atwater’s, a Maryland-based company, is recalling 197 cookie tins that also contain undeclared allergens, specifically tree nuts. The recall emphasizes the importance of clear labeling to protect consumers with specific dietary restrictions.

Connecticut’s Willy Pete’s Chocolate Company LLC is also taking precautionary measures by withdrawing its Almond Despair chocolate bars from the market. This action was confirmed in a separate announcement on the same day, further underscoring the widespread nature of these recalls.

Importance of Consumer Awareness

The recalls have prompted discussions about food safety and the significance of proper labeling. Undeclared allergens can pose serious health risks, and companies are urged to ensure their products are accurately labeled to prevent allergic reactions.

Consumers who purchased the affected products are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. The FDA continues to monitor the situation and has encouraged consumers to stay informed about product recalls, especially during busy seasons like the holidays.

Companies involved in these recalls are cooperating with regulatory authorities to address the issues and enhance their food safety protocols. This incident serves as a reminder of the critical responsibility manufacturers have in safeguarding public health by clearly disclosing all ingredients in their products.
