U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones was awarded the Key to the City of Miami during a ceremony at a recent City of Miami Commission meeting. The honor, presented by Mayor Francis Suarez, recognizes Reding Quiñones’s significant contributions over his 22 years of dedicated public service.

Born and raised in Miami, Reding Quiñones is the descendant of a Cuban political refugee. His personal background reflects the values of perseverance and civic duty inherent in Miami’s diverse community. He currently serves as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Southern District of Florida, overseeing one of the nation’s busiest U.S. Attorney’s Offices.

In his remarks, Mayor Suarez expressed profound appreciation for Reding Quiñones, commending his “steadfast dedication to justice.” The mayor highlighted Reding Quiñones’s role in fostering collaboration between federal law enforcement and local government. “The safety of our community is a shared responsibility between state, local, and federal partners. Mayor Suarez’s leadership and unwavering commitment to public safety have made our city stronger, and I’m deeply grateful to accept this recognition on behalf of all who dedicate their lives to serving our community,” Reding Quiñones stated, underscoring the collective effort required to maintain public safety.

The Key to the City, with its medieval origins symbolizing freedom for trusted individuals to enter and exit, has evolved into a contemporary symbol of civic gratitude. This recognition reflects Reding Quiñones’s integrity and professionalism, as well as his ability to confront significant challenges, including violent crime and public corruption.

According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mayor Suarez emphasized the importance of individuals like Reding Quiñones, who are “recognized not only for their professional accomplishments but for their lasting impact on the city’s safety, integrity, and spirit.”

As the United States Attorney, Reding Quiñones oversees several offices, including those in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Fort Pierce. His ascent to this role was formalized through a presidential appointment followed by Senate confirmation. Prior to this, he served as a state court trial judge in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, where he handled civil and criminal domestic violence cases.

The honor bestowed upon Reding Quiñones is not merely ceremonial; it embodies a deep recognition of his unwavering commitment to the community and the vital role he plays in ensuring the safety and integrity of Miami.
