Remembering Mildred C. Branca: A Life of Love and Service

Mildred C. Branca, a beloved member of the Rochester, Minnesota community, passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 93. Known affectionately as Millie, she left a legacy marked by her dedication to family, community, and a spirit of kindness that touched many lives.
Born on December 7, 1931, in Clara City, Minnesota, Millie was the daughter of Peter J. and Gertrude Thein. After completing her education, she earned a teaching degree from St. Cloud Teachers College, where she met her future husband, Louis F. Branca. The couple married on August 17, 1953, and shared a bond that lasted over 69 years.
Millie was celebrated for her nurturing character and selflessness. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, embodying the role of caregiver throughout her life. Her talents as a seamstress were well-known, and she delighted in creating handmade gifts for her loved ones.
Community Engagement and Personal Resilience
While raising her family, Millie actively contributed to her community for over three decades. She volunteered her time at St. Pius X Church, participated in Meals on Wheels, and dedicated her efforts to the Rochester hospitals and the Sisters of St. Francis-Assisi. Her commitment to service exemplified her caring nature and her desire to make a positive impact on those around her.
Millie’s later years were marked by her battle with dementia, yet she faced this challenge with remarkable grace. Even during difficult times, her cheerful disposition and vibrant blue eyes brought joy to those around her. Her resilience served as an inspiration to both her family and the dedicated caregivers at the Benedictine Living Community – Madonna Towers. The family expressed gratitude for the compassionate care Millie received during her time there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lou, and her parents. Millie is survived by her daughter, Mary Branca Rosenow (Jim), and her sons Bill (Pat), Denny (Emilie), and Steve (Linda). She cherished her grandchildren: Joe (Amber), Tom (Autumn), Ellie (Steven), Julianne (Mario), Kristina, Olivia, Elena, Ali, and Anna, along with her great-grandsons: Blake, Bradley, Westin, Luke, and Francis.
Private services for the family are planned, with memorial contributions directed to the Benedictine Living Community, the Sisters of St. Francis-Assisi, or a charity of choice. Friends and family may leave online condolences at www.mackenfuneralhome.com, honoring a life well-lived.
