The Orland High School District 230 has appointed Tim Danlow, a lifelong resident of Orland Park and a graduate of the district, to its board. This decision comes after the resignation of board member Nadia Scodrine for personal reasons. Danlow will serve until the next election in April 2027, at which point he intends to seek re-election to continue his service.

Danlow highlighted the importance of stability within the board, noting that frequent turnover can hinder progress. “Having a solid board that has a lot of time together gives us more time to see our goals, and that consistency is very important,” he stated during his first meeting as a board member. He expressed deep personal connections to the district, emphasizing the significance of his new role as a parent of children who currently attend District 230 schools.

His immediate priorities include improving student test scores, which he pointed out have been on a decline even before the COVID-19 pandemic. “Other districts have recovered from the pandemic, but District 230 is lagging,” he remarked. Danlow aims to implement financial discipline and efficiency while maintaining educational quality, stating that balancing funding for the district represents a significant challenge.

As the owner and president of Key Metals Inc., a construction distributor, Danlow brings a wealth of business experience, including contract negotiation and budget management. He recognizes the need to address community concerns about taxation while striving to deliver an excellent educational product. “It’s such a balancing act of trying to keep everybody’s taxes where they want them to be, to make them happy but to still turn out the best product possible to educate our kids,” he said.

During the board meeting, several members welcomed Danlow to his new position. Board member Mark Kelly encouraged him to ask questions freely, while Tony Serratore assured him of the board’s commitment to effective work. “We do our best, and I think you’ll fit in well with us, and I look forward to working with you moving forward,” Serratore stated.

Danlow is also known for his community involvement, particularly in youth sports coaching. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, where he was an All-American hockey player. His appointment followed a thorough selection process that included accepting applications until October 10 and conducting interviews with candidates in mid-October.

Board President Lynn Zeder acknowledged the challenge of selecting a new member, noting the strong pool of applicants. She highlighted Danlow’s dedication, citing his consistent attendance at board meetings as a key factor in his selection. Zeder expressed hope that the other applicants would continue to engage with the district and its initiatives.

As Danlow embarks on this new chapter, he remains focused on fostering an environment that supports educational excellence and community involvement within District 230.
