Madison Hedglin Triumphs at MAC Championship as Cougars Shine

Dallas graduate Madison Hedglin made headlines on Saturday by winning the MAC cross country championship at Delaware Valley University. Her remarkable performance contributed to the Misericordia Cougars finishing second in the team competition with a total of 55 points, narrowly losing to Lebanon Valley College for the championship title.

Hedglin’s achievements did not stop at the individual victory; she was also recognized as both the MAC Runner of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Teammate Madison Kammer secured an impressive fifth place overall, further showcasing the strength of the Cougars’ cross country team.

In the men’s race, the Cougars also excelled, with Trey Rhinehart and Ryan Weber earning first-team All-MAC honors. Rhinehart finished third overall while Weber claimed sixth place, helping the team to a commendable third-place finish.

Women’s Soccer and Field Hockey Highlights

The success for Misericordia continued beyond cross country. In women’s soccer, the Cougars dominated Lebanon Valley College with a decisive score of 5-0 at Mangelsdorf Field. Esabella Mendola and Olivia Maniskas each scored twice, while Kim Ruby added a fifth goal. This victory secured the Cougars the No. 1 seed in the MAC Freedom playoffs, concluding the regular season undefeated.

In field hockey, the Cougars faced Delaware Valley and clinched a 4-0 victory, capping off their regular season in style. Madison Lasinski led the team with two goals, while teammates Madison Blauch and Ashley Pitz each contributed one goal. Sarah Bogina made two saves, earning the shutout.

Other Sports Results and Performances

Moving to other sports, the King’s College men’s soccer team struggled as Arcadia defeated them 4-0 at McCarthy Stadium. The Knights have now lost four consecutive matches, with Sadie Nugent scoring twice for Arcadia.

In women’s volleyball, King’s faced a challenging day, losing two matches. In their first match against RIT, they dropped a hard-fought five-set game, with Lindsay Arezina leading the team with 10 kills. Later, Vassar College swept King’s in straight sets.

Wrestling also saw Wilkes University open its season with a commendable fifth-place finish at the Ned McGinley Invitational. The team scored 95.5 points, with New York University taking first place with 160.5 points. Individual victories were achieved by Ryan Santiago and Jaryn Hartranft, who both won their respective weight classes.

In men’s hockey, Misericordia faced a tough opponent in Trine University, falling 5-1 in their season opener at the SUNY-Canton Tournament. Samuel Libetti managed to score the only goal for the Cougars.

King’s women’s hockey team also endured a setback, losing 5-1 to Buffalo State. Abby Barlocker scored the lone goal for the Monarchs, leaving them with an 0-2 record early in the season.
