Firestone Trustee Candidate John Damsma Highlights Urgent Issues

John Damsma, a candidate for trustee in Firestone, Colorado, has raised critical concerns regarding the town’s leadership and its impact on essential services. With a tenure of 17 years in Firestone and a background in management with UPS, Damsma emphasizes that the town faces significant challenges, particularly related to its water supply.
Water Supply Crisis and Leadership Changes Needed
According to the Central Weld County Water District (CWCWD), Firestone will no longer receive treated water starting on August 21, 2028, due to ongoing difficulties with the current town leadership. Damsma argues that the town’s mayor, trustees, and town manager have created an unsustainable situation, jeopardizing the vital resource that residents rely on.
Damsma notes that the development of Firestone’s Central Park does not align with the vision of local residents. He believes that a change in leadership is essential to address these pressing issues effectively. “The current administration is not responsive to the needs of our community,” he stated. “We need new perspectives to ensure the water supply and community projects reflect the desires of our residents.”
Supporting Small Businesses and Community Collaboration
In his campaign, Damsma has outlined plans to foster small business growth in Firestone. He proposes directing town staff to create an environment conducive to business development through reasonable tax incentives and adaptable zoning requirements. “Our goal should be to make Firestone a welcoming space for small businesses to thrive,” he said.
Damsma also emphasizes the importance of collaboration with neighboring communities within the Carbon Valley. He believes that enhancing partnerships, particularly in emergency services and cultural activities, is essential for the economic vitality of all towns involved. “Good communication and cooperative efforts can significantly improve the quality of life for our citizens,” he remarked.
With the upcoming election, Damsma aims to address these vital issues and encourage a collaborative spirit within Firestone and its neighboring communities. His comprehensive approach highlights not only the immediate concerns regarding water supply but also the long-term development strategies necessary for the town’s growth and sustainability.
