Beloved Teacher and Volunteer Mildred C. Branca Passes Away at 93

Mildred C. Branca, a cherished member of the Rochester, Minnesota community, passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 93. Known fondly as Millie, she left behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication to her family and community.

Born on December 7, 1931, in Clara City, Minnesota, to Peter J. and Gertrude Thein, Millie grew up in a nurturing environment that shaped her compassionate nature. She earned her teaching degree from St. Cloud Teachers College, where she met her future husband, Louis F. Branca. The couple married on August 17, 1953, embarking on a lifelong journey together that spanned over 69 years.

Millie was renowned for her exceptional qualities as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family described her as selfless and caregiving, always putting others first. She was a talented seamstress, known for creating and gifting handmade items that brought joy to many.

In addition to her family commitments, Millie supported her husband throughout his career as a high school coach. Together, they enjoyed countless days at their lake cabin, forming a bond that was admired by all.

A Lifelong Commitment to Community Service

Millie’s dedication to her community was evident through her extensive volunteer work, which spanned over three decades. She actively contributed to various local organizations, including St. Pius X Church, Meals On Wheels, and the Rochester hospitals. Her commitment extended to the Sisters of St. Francis-Assisi community, where she offered her time and talents generously.

Despite facing challenges in her later years with dementia, Millie maintained a cheerful disposition and a radiant spirit that inspired those around her. Her vibrant blue eyes remained a symbol of her enduring strength and positivity. The caregivers at the Benedictine Living Community – Madonna Towers expressed deep appreciation for her, acknowledging the joy she brought to their lives.

Millie is preceded in death by her husband, Lou, and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Branca Rosenow, and her sons, Bill, Denny, and Steve, along with their respective families. Her grandchildren and great-grandsons were a source of immense pride and love throughout her life.
