Remembering Wade Gluyas: A Life of Kindness and Generosity
Wade Alexander Gluyas, born on August 14, 1958, in Santa Ana, California, passed away on October 20, 2024, after a prolonged struggle with kidney and liver failure. He was the only son of George and Bette Gluyas and is remembered for his generous spirit and deep compassion for others.
A graduate of Rancho Alamitos High School, Wade went on to earn a degree from ITT Technical School and attended various community college classes out of a genuine love for learning. He was known for his kind demeanor and jovial nature, often described as a “big teddy bear” with a warm smile and infectious laughter.
Wade’s generosity was evident in his willingness to help others, often giving away his last dollar or the shirt off his back. Despite his caring nature, he faced challenges in social interactions due to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which sometimes made it difficult for people to connect with him. Nevertheless, he remained steadfast in his commitment to support those he affectionately referred to as “critters,” “old geezers,” and “the little tikes.”
The simple joys of life brought Wade immense happiness. He delighted in practical jokes with his sister, Becky, and enjoyed fishing trips with his father and sister, Leslie. His childhood friend, Chris, shared many adventures with him, dreaming of far-off places like Alaska, though they never traveled there. Their conversations about exploration and imagination were treasures he cherished.
Wade’s culinary experiments, humorously dubbed “concoctions” by Leslie, showcased his adventurous spirit in the kitchen, often featuring generous amounts of sour cream, hot sauce, and mayonnaise. His family, particularly his father, never shied away from tasting his unique creations.
Family was central to Wade’s life. He lived with his mother, sister, and nephew, assisting them with errands and providing care until the passing of his parents in 2005. Afterward, he moved to Visalia, California, to live with his sister, Beth, and brother-in-law, Gary. Despite the challenges posed by his OCD, the family remained devoted to Wade, who faced his health battles with calmness and bravery. Even in his final days, he expressed concern for his family’s well-being.
In a final act of kindness, Wade chose to donate his organs to the Donor Network, encouraging others to consider organ donation despite the fears that may surround it. His selflessness and generosity left a profound impact on those around him.
Wade Gluyas will be laid to rest alongside his parents and sister in Murrieta Valley Cemetery, Murrieta, California. A graveside service is scheduled for November 3, 2024, at 13:00. His family reflects on their loss, feeling that the world is dimmer without his presence, yet they find solace in the belief that heaven shines a little brighter with Wade in it.
Wade’s life, marked by kindness, imagination, and generosity, serves as a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many.
