Community Mourns Loss of Thomas R. Buske After Brave Battle

Thomas R. “Tom” Buske, aged 73, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, in Rochester, Minnesota, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by family and friends, he demonstrated remarkable strength and grace throughout his illness, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Born on December 27, 1951, in Rochester, Tom was the son of Phillip and Velma Buske. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1969 and dedicated over three decades of his professional life to the Mayo Clinic, where he worked for 34 years before retiring in 2006.

On January 20, 1984, Tom married Lori Dostal, his lifelong partner, with whom he celebrated 41 years of marriage. Their relationship was characterized by mutual respect and affection, and they built a warm and welcoming home. Tom was known for his hospitality, often inviting friends to spend time in his garage, where he enjoyed sharing stories and laughter.

He is survived by his wife, Lori; daughter, Katina Gougeon, and son, Ryan Dostal, along with six beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers, Charles Buske and James Buske, who will remember him fondly. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

A heartfelt acknowledgment goes to the staff at Mayo Hospice for their compassionate care, particularly Nate, who provided invaluable support during Tom’s final days.

Funeral Arrangements and Tributes

A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on August 8, 2025, at the River Park Chapel located within Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, allowing friends and family to gather and share memories.

For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available at www.mackenfuneralhome.com. Online condolences can also be posted on the same website, offering a space for loved ones to express their sympathies and share their reflections on Tom’s life.

Tom Buske’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will remember him for his kindness, strength, and the joy he brought into their lives.
