The YMCA of Greater Nashua has announced a significant renovation of its Early Education Center (EEC) located in Merrimack, New Hampshire. This center is not only the largest childcare facility in the state but also the largest single-site YMCA early education center in the United States. The renovation aims to enhance the educational environment for children and families throughout the Greater Nashua community.

Joe Manzoli, Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of Greater Nashua, emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “This renovation is a pivotal investment in our mission and in the futures of children and families across the Greater Nashua community.” The upgrades will involve updating existing classrooms and adding new learning spaces, creating an environment that fosters curiosity and supports child development and wellness.

Details of the Renovation Project

The renovation will be executed by Chapman Construction, which has been tasked with overseeing improvements to approximately 24,000 square feet of space. This includes upgrades to the current 16 classrooms, enhancements to the kitchen area, and the addition of three new classrooms equipped with private bathrooms. Notably, the renovation will proceed in phases while keeping the center operational, ensuring families continue to receive early education services without interruption.

Key features of the renovation plan include the installation of skylights and other daylighting improvements, designed to create a brighter and healthier environment for both children and staff. Classrooms will adopt sensory-friendly and nature-inspired designs, enhancing the overall learning experience and well-being of the children.

The project also focuses on redesigning spaces to foster a sense of community. This includes modernizing hallways, creating new staff lounges, and improving security measures by relocating secured entrances to ensure all classrooms are situated within a single restricted-access area.

Funding and Community Support

The total cost of the renovation is projected at approximately $2.5 million, funded through a combination of YMCA investment, community contributions, and state tax credits. A significant boost to the fundraising efforts comes from an anonymous donor who has pledged a $100,000 matching gift. This means that every contribution made by the community will be doubled, providing a powerful incentive for local support.

Mike LaChance, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Greater Nashua, noted the importance of this matching gift. “This generous matching gift is a strong vote of confidence in our commitment to early education and the families we serve,” he said. The campaign aims to inspire the community to unite in making a lasting impact, creating a nurturing space where every child can thrive.

The matching opportunity is pivotal. If fully realized, it will bring the YMCA closer to securing the necessary funding for this essential renovation, ensuring that every child, both current and future, has access to a safe and inspiring learning environment.

With its commitment to enhancing early childhood education, the YMCA of Greater Nashua continues to play a crucial role in the community, investing in the futures of children and their families.
