UTEP Achieves Historic Enrollment of Over 26,000 Students

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing a student enrollment of 26,000 for the first time in its history. For the Fall 2025 semester, UTEP reports a total enrollment of 26,297 students, reflecting an increase of more than 1,200 students compared to the previous year, according to the university’s official census.
This upward trend highlights a broader commitment to community investment in education, aiming to improve futures for students and families. UTEP President Heather Wilson emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, “This milestone is about more than numbers. It’s a reflection of the trust students and families are placing in the value of a UTEP degree. It’s everyone’s job to meet each individual student where they are and open the path to graduation and opportunity.”
Increased Enrollment Across Colleges
The record-setting freshman enrollment, which shows a remarkable increase of nearly 15% from last year, marks the fourth consecutive year of growth for this cohort. This surge in enrollment is felt across various colleges within the university, notably a 12% increase in the College of Nursing and an 11.1% increase in the Woody L. Hunt College of Business.
UTEP attributes part of this growth to new programs focused on U.S.-Mexico trade and commerce, supported by a generous contribution from the Hunt Family Foundation. This initiative aligns with the university’s mission to enhance educational opportunities through hands-on learning experiences.
Strategies for Student Success
The increase in enrollment is also a testament to UTEP’s comprehensive approach to student success. Amanda Vasquez-Vicario, Ph.D., Vice President for Enrollment Management, commented on their strategy, stating, “With the support of the UT System Board of Regents, we have expanded our Promise Program. We’ve also expanded scholarship programs and strengthened student support services, including academic advising, to offer individualized experiences for students.”
These initiatives reflect an integrated strategy designed to guide students from the application process to graduation, ensuring they receive the support needed to thrive academically. The university’s ongoing commitment to expanding resources and opportunities underlines its dedication to fostering a diverse learning environment.
Overall, UTEP’s achievement of a record-breaking enrollment not only symbolizes growth but also mirrors the institution’s successful efforts to provide quality education and student support, paving the way for future generations.
