The Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education will hold a meeting on January 12, 2026, at its central administration office located at 512 W. Phillip Ave. The meeting is open to the public, encouraging community involvement in educational governance.

A special meeting will commence at 15:00, followed by the regular session starting at 17:30. This gathering will provide insights into the ongoing process of selecting a new superintendent and allow board members to discuss contract negotiations in closed sessions.

Action items on the agenda include the potential signing of the code of ethics and the selection of key board leadership positions for the upcoming year, such as the president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and recording secretary. Additionally, the board will consider the appointment of members to its eleven committees.

Several reports will be presented, including reviews of contracts for staff members such as Crystal Brummels, Morgan Cook, and Rhiannon Van Fleet. The board will also review resignations from staff members including Roberto Acuna and Lexi Bacon. Notably, Rhiannon Van Fleet’s situation will be addressed, as she is only contracted to teach for the spring semester.

The board’s agenda further includes the approval of claims and deliberation on the proposed 2026-27 staff and parent calendars. Policies concerning attendance at professional growth meetings, as well as procedures for the adoption, amendment, or suspension of policies, will also be considered.

In addition, the board plans to release requests for proposals related to several significant projects. These include the replacement of a cooling tower at Norfolk Middle School, repainting the auditorium at Norfolk Junior High, and roofing work at Norfolk High. The board also intends to address the replacement of one route and one mini bus.

Attendance at public meetings like this one plays a vital role in fostering transparency and community engagement in local government. The Norfolk Public Schools Board of Education encourages citizens to participate actively in these discussions, as informed participation enhances the decision-making process.
