FARGO — North Dakota State University (NDSU) welcomed thousands of new students on August 25, 2023, as they prepared for the upcoming semester. The atmosphere was vibrant, with cheers and excitement filling the air as students made their way through the university gates. NDSU President David Cook was on hand to greet newcomers, offering high fives and encouraging words to set a positive tone for their academic journey.

The university’s walkway was bustling with faculty members, the pep band, upperclassmen, and cheerleaders, all contributing to a spirited atmosphere. Cook expressed his enthusiasm for the new semester, noting the sense of Bison pride that characterizes the university community. “A long trek where all the new students get to walk through and meet all the other students and faculty and staff, the band, and the dance team and the cheer team. We just want to make everybody know we love having them here, and we want them to have a great semester,” he stated.

Although the official first day of classes is set for August 26, 2023, some classes starting after 16:00 commenced on August 25. This early welcome allowed students to acclimatize to their new environment and foster connections with their peers and faculty.

The enthusiastic reception is a hallmark of NDSU’s commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive campus community. As new students embark on their academic journeys, the university aims to ensure they feel valued and integrated from day one. The event underscores the importance of school spirit and camaraderie, which are integral to the NDSU experience.

As classes begin, students will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities and academic programs designed to enhance their learning experience. With support from faculty and the broader university community, new students are encouraged to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
