Kenosha Unified Schools Welcome Students Back for New Academic Year

The Kenosha Unified School District officially commenced the 2025-26 academic year on September 5, 2025, with students from kindergarten through 12th grade returning to classes. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students settled into their routines at both Bose and Prairie Lane Elementary Schools.
At Bose Elementary School, fourth graders embraced the new school year with enthusiasm. Mylo DeLeon smiled while organizing his school supplies, reflecting the eagerness of many students. A welcome sign greeted students as they entered, setting a positive tone for the day. Classmates Evy Perez Marin and Angel Hernandez assisted one another in preparing their materials, highlighting the sense of community among the students.
In the fourth-grade classroom, students engaged in activities like coloring bookmarks and helping each other with their supplies. As they awaited the start of their classes, students Kimi Malonga, Emma Ochandategui, Bella Ridley, and Ember Cicero shared smiles and anticipation, eager to embark on their educational journey.
Meanwhile, at Prairie Lane Elementary School, first graders were welcomed by their teachers. Emma Oster read the book “You’re Finally Here” by Melanie Watt, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for her students. Young learners, including Henrick Hietzman, embraced the day with excitement as they hung up their backpacks in preparation for the lessons ahead.
The first day of school was particularly special for families as well. April Smith walked her grandson, Giovanni DeMarino, to Prairie Lane, marking the start of a new chapter for him. Kassidy Canfield accompanied her younger brother Colton Canfield and friend Angel Medoza, both of whom were starting their first day of first grade.
As teachers began their lessons, Nicolette Brown assisted her students with spelling activities, ensuring that they felt supported in their learning environment. The collaborative efforts of both students and teachers contributed to a smooth start to the academic year.
This year’s return to school not only marked new beginnings for students but also highlighted the importance of community and support within the Kenosha Unified School District. As educators and families come together, the focus remains on fostering a positive and enriching environment for every student.
