Jamey Storey Balances Full-Time Work and MBA Journey at CU Denver
Jamey Storey has successfully balanced a full-time career while pursuing an MBA at CU Denver, demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning. He earned his undergraduate degree in supply chain management from Michigan State University, where he gained practical experience through paid internships at prominent aerospace and beverage companies. This hands-on approach provided him with a solid foundation that he later expanded upon in Denver.
After relocating to Denver to advance his career, Storey enrolled in CU Denver’s MBA program, which he completed in just two and a half years while working at VF Corporation. This company, known for its popular apparel and footwear brands such as North Face, Vans, Jansport, and Timberland, is headquartered conveniently near the campus. As a senior strategy analyst focused on supply chain network optimization, Storey plays a crucial role in driving strategic initiatives and building data-driven models that enhance customer experiences.
Storey shared insights into his decision to pursue an MBA, highlighting the importance of finding a program that accommodates his full-time work schedule. He appreciated CU Denver’s local presence and the flexibility of both in-person and hybrid class options. By carefully planning his schedule, he took two courses each semester and continued his studies during the summer months.
The diversity of professionals in CU Denver’s MBA program was another factor that attracted Storey. He noted that classmates from various industries enrich the learning experience, allowing them to share perspectives that enhance academic rigor.
“My MBA allowed me to choose a specialization track, and I focused on business strategy, which has helped me bring a stronger long-term vision to my work,” Storey said. He particularly valued the Visionary Leadership course, which encouraged innovative thinking and taught him how to apply real frameworks to his job.
One of Storey’s memorable projects involved a Marketing Strategy course where he developed a concept for a beverage aimed at Gen Z consumers. This project merged his industry knowledge with insights gained in the classroom, showcasing how academic ideas can evolve into practical products.
“Meeting my moment at CU Denver meant realizing that no idea is too small to explore and grow into something bigger,” Storey reflected.
Beyond his academic and professional achievements, Storey enjoys engaging with the local community. He frequently attends concerts at the Civic Center and Sculpture Park and participates in volunteer events. Additionally, he enjoys running along the South Platte River Trail, often joining his colleagues from the Altra brand team for “runches,” which combine running with lunch.
Storey’s journey exemplifies the benefits of integrating education with professional development, providing valuable lessons for others seeking to enhance their careers while managing the demands of daily life. His experiences at CU Denver not only contributed to his professional growth but also enriched his personal life, fostering community connections and a robust network.
