Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Superintendent Resigns for New Role
The superintendent of the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (ISD), Brad Schnautz, has announced his resignation, effective January 2, 2026. He will transition to become the executive director of the District 11 Education Service Center, which serves 76 public school districts, 17 public charter schools, 115 charter campuses, and 202 private schools in the Fort Worth area.
Schnautz’s decision comes amid ongoing discussions within the district regarding potential closures of two elementary schools due to budgetary constraints. In an email addressed to parents, he expressed his enthusiasm for the new role while acknowledging the difficulty of his decision to step down. “While I am truly excited for the opportunity to continue supporting public education across our region, please know that the decision to step down as your superintendent has been an extremely difficult one,” he stated.
Having joined the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD in 2017, Schnautz has served as superintendent since 2023. His leadership during a challenging period has been marked by significant changes, including the current budget discussions. The Board of Trustees announced that they would initiate the search for his successor immediately following his resignation.
Impact of School Closures
The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees is set to vote next month on whether to close Dove Elementary School and Bransford Elementary School. These potential closures are part of a broader effort to address financial challenges facing the district. The decision has sparked discussions among parents and community members about the future of local education.
Schnautz’s new position will enable him to support public education on a broader scale. The District 11 Education Service Center aims to provide resources and assistance to local schools, enhancing educational opportunities across the region. His transition highlights a commitment to fostering educational improvements beyond his current district.
“I have full confidence in the outstanding team of trustees, educators, administrators, and leaders who will continue to fulfill our mission to prepare, motivate, and encourage each student to reach his or her full potential,” Schnautz remarked in his letter to parents.
As the Grapevine-Colleyville community navigates these changes, the focus remains on maintaining educational standards and ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed. The upcoming vote on the elementary schools will be a pivotal moment for the district as it plans its future amidst financial pressures.
