Cadillac Public Schools have taken a significant step towards enhancing handwriting instruction by adopting the Palmer method of penmanship. On December 10, 1925, a group of city teachers expressed their enthusiasm for the new method, which aims to improve the quality of handwriting education in the district. The initiative has received strong support from Superintendent B.C. Shankland and grade supervisor Miss Elizabeth Powers.

The decision follows a report from a special penmanship committee that recommended the adoption of the Palmer method. This handwriting technique was introduced at the McKinley building earlier this academic year and is currently undergoing a thorough trial. Teachers have reported positive feedback on the method’s effectiveness, which has sparked considerable enthusiasm among the faculty.

Many educators are now seeking additional training to prepare for the broader implementation of the Palmer method across the Cadillac school system. This proactive approach highlights the dedication of the Cadillac public school faculty to continuously improve their teaching practices.

In a separate development on December 10, 2000, health officials are investigating the source of a salmonella outbreak that resulted in the death of a resident in Midland County. The individual reportedly fell ill after attending a banquet in nearby Missaukee County.

Dr. Mary Grace Stobierski, manager of the infectious disease epidemiology division at the state’s health department in Lansing, confirmed that the District Health Department No. 10 is leading the investigation. “What I can tell you is that District Health Department No. 10 has contacted us about a gastrointestinal investigation that they are doing,” she stated. The ongoing investigation aims to identify the source of the contamination and prevent further cases of illness.

These two events reflect the ongoing commitment of local institutions to improve educational outcomes and public health within the community. As Cadillac schools embrace innovative teaching methods, health officials remain vigilant in addressing public health concerns.
