The StoryCorps Mobile Tour is set to arrive in Lewisville, Texas, offering residents an opportunity to document their personal narratives at the Lewisville Public Library from December 5 to 8, 2023. This initiative invites individuals from the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area to capture their stories, whether they are significant life events or everyday experiences.

During the tour, the library will provide participants with the necessary equipment and guidance to record their tales. Those interested in sharing their stories must schedule an appointment in advance, as slots on December 5, 6, and 8 are available. Reservations can be made through the library’s website or by contacting the Adult Services Desk at 972.219.3779.

Each participant will receive a digital copy of their recording and will have the chance to contribute their story to the StoryCorps digital archive at the Library of Congress’s American Folklife Center. This endeavor aims to create a comprehensive collection of American experiences, reinforcing the importance of personal storytelling. According to the announcement on Lewisville’s official website, StoryCorps seeks to “help us believe in each other by illuminating the humanity and possibility in us all — one story at a time.”

Workshops to Enhance Storytelling Skills

In addition to recording sessions, the Lewisville Public Library will host a free “Preserving Stories Workshop” on December 6. This event, taking place from 11:00 to 12:00, is open to the public and does not require prior registration. The workshop will provide valuable insights into the tools and techniques used by StoryCorps for personal and family history archiving. Participants can learn how to effectively preserve and share their stories with future generations in the Bennett Program Room on the library’s first floor.

The StoryCorps Mobile Tour represents a unique opportunity for Lewisville’s residents to engage with their community’s history and contribute to a larger narrative. By sharing their stories, individuals can participate in a collective memory that highlights the diversity and richness of American life.
